RE-CAP OF AAU STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT

Team Dennis

May 17-19,2013

Team Dennis showed their character in an impressive tournament run, going 5-0 to win the AAU state championship for the third time in a row.  What a great accomplishment.  They started out on fire against NC bullets, by hitting 3's from everywhere and  turning steals into points, by winning by a huge
margin.

Then they ended Saturday against an up-and-coming team called COBA. WGGBA did what they had to do.  Finishing as the one seed in our pool, they opened up against our own WGGBA team in the first round on Sunday.  And it SUCKED.  Playing your own team is never fun.  After a back and forth battle, Team Dennis won a very close game.

Then they had a play Ohio Varsity Blue, who beat them by 20 plus, earlier in the season.  Oh man, straight classic. What a game it was by both teams. With the score tied with 9.7 seconds, Coach Dennis drew a play up and it worked to perfection. Rael hit a high low pass to Malik, and he shot a jump hook as the buzzer was going off.

Great game by both teams.  In the championship game, they were playing a friendly opponent, Ohio Hoopsters.  WGGBA was down the entire game and had to battle back.  They took the lead on a steal by Dana and the decisive basket came on a pass from Rael to Case for a and one.  The highlight of this game was an off-rim miss-shot follow-up dunk by Malik Bocook.  Wow, it came from nowhere and the entire crowd was on their feet.  Congrats to the entire team for stepping up and making things happen.
